Fightdirector.com is 20 years old this year but it's been about 7 years since I did much with it. Since then it's just kinda become somewhere that I send people that may want to hire me or who would like to view my CV. I recognise that it's not what it once was, but things are about to start changing.
I stopped uploading regular content because I was working so much in television and film. With that, however, came a problem. I had to sign or assume the responsibility of non-disclosure agreements in those jobs. These limit what I can talk about, release or disclose about them. I had to wait sometimes a year or more before I could disclose information about what I'd been doing and this made it less likely that I would ever do so.
I'm currently learning how to use SEO and looking at how the site can be made more user friendly. This will mean curating the content which is already here and pulling together new quality content for visitors. I will be:
Inviting guest writers to create on-topic posts.
Releasing more behind the scenes content.
Talking through older action scenes on which I have directed fights.
Discussing specific problems and solutions which those working in this field may face.
Link Sharing with similar sites.
...and curating and distributing relevant content from other places around the net.
I have already started this last item by sharing stunt featurettes and similar YouTube content within my blog section.
If I had all the time in the world, which despite the Covid-19 situation I don't, I would also:
Create a new podcast interviewing experienced fight directors and stunt people.
Create an online award show for those working in the stunts and fights in film, theatre and television.
You'll have to wait and see if I take either of those on. If you'd like to suggest content for the site or have other ideas on how it can be improved then please get in touch via the CONTACT PAGE.
My time frame for all of this is just a few months so stay tuned. Follow me on Twitter @fight_director for regular updates.
